A similar case took place in September 2012 when a group of Iranian hackers targeted Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, and Citigroup. These attacks had been occurring for a year until they were reported. Do you still believe that you should pay all those bills online? Do you think it is safe for you to check your balance or any other detail through your bank’s website? Or, do you think you would still want to transfer your funds online?

Well, let us start with the four major types of attacks.

  1. Phishing

If you have an online banking account, you need to make up your mind because phishing is happening very commonly. In this attack, the user is usually tricked into clicking a link on a website or in an email message. Upon clicking the link, the software starts downloading automatically in the background and steals the sensitive information on the user’s computer, such as usernames and passwords.

The link may take you to another website that seems legitimate. The site asks you to enter your information that can be comprised and used by hackers to access your accounts like email or bank account.

  1. Key-logging

One of the most common online attacks occurs when you try to access your account on a public WIFI network such as internet cafes or airport terminals. There is a high chance for you to become a victim of keylogging. This process makes use of software that records your keystrokes and then uses them to sneak into your account.

Other than this, keylogging can also be used through hidden video cameras.

  1. Pharming

Although pharming isn’t a much simplified and commonly used hacking strategy, it still occurs. This process allows hackers to hijack the URL of a bank or other money lending institution. When you access the URL, you are automatically redirected to bogus sites, and those sites look like real sites.

  1. Identity Theft

Hackers might not necessarily steal your information, but they can still compromise your account details. This process is known as identity theft. During this process, your personal information, such as your identifying data or social security number, is compromised. This data can then be used to sneak into your other accounts.
